The importance of discovering of atrial fibrillation early

Atrial fibrillation significantly increases the risk of a stroke if left untreated – up to five times the risk compared to those without atrial fibrillation.

Detecting atrial fibrillation early is crucial in preventing serious consequences such as stroke. With age the risk increases, making regular checks even more important.

If you experience any of the symptoms of atrial fibrillation, a visit to your healthcare center is recommended.

How is a screening done for atrial fibrillation?

A simple and painless ECG examination is performed to assess the heart´s electrical activity. If necessary, additional measurements with a portable ECG device may be required. A general health check can also detect other risk factors and signs of cardiovascular disease.

By detecting and treating atrial fibrillation early, you can continue to live an active and full life.

The risk of atrial fibrillation increases if you are over 65 years of age. Be extra cautious if you also have high blood pressure, diabetes, heart failure or other heart diseases, and if you have had a stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) in the past.

As a first step to detecting irregular heartbeats, you can check your pulse with two fingers twice a day for two weeks.
